KIO Calls for Members to Come to Arklow Photoshoot
at Noon on Saturday, January 6th 2024
Access to Arklow’s North Beach has been accessible from the town via a Right of Way since time immemorial.
In May 2018 Arklow Caravan Park blocked the Right of Way to the beach and local residents organised to form Arklow Residents Right of Way (ARROW). Membership is now 2,620. Their activism resulted in Wicklow County Council issuing an Enforcement Order and instigating Court Proceedings to have the unauthorised barriers removed and have public access reinstated. Despite this the Right of Way to the beach remains blocked and inaccessible.
The barrier was reinforced last week.

The citizens of Arklow and the public generally have been denied access to this lovely beach for long enough. ARROW wants to highlight the unauthorised injustice to the council by organising a group photo there at 12pm on Saturday the 6th of January. They are requesting that many people as possible join them. The photos will be widely distributed to local and national media.
Keep Ireland Open supports ARROW and is encouraging our members to assemble at the lovely Arklow Duck Pond, Seaview Avenue, Eircode Y14 X753 at 11:40 on Saturday. Please spread the word if you would like to help us see this issue resolved.
Please come and support ARROW and KIO. The future of access to our public beaches is important to us all.
